In 2015, Yale University implemented a pilot program to set an internal price for carbon ($40/tonne of CO2 in this program) emitted from various buildings on its campus. This is the first program of its type implemented by a university. Buildings that emitted at lower than a weighted average received a share of the funds collected from the program. The scheme is being expanded across the university in 2018.
The results of the study were published in Nature in November 2017.
